This was taken 24 hours after my earlier goldfinch shot.  About 8 inches of wet snow fell overnight. Jenny was away so I opened the kitchen window and began firing away.  At one time, a starling flew into the kitchen, but quickly turned around and escaped before the cats could intercept the intruder.  Unfortunately, I under-exposed this image with +1ev for exposure compensation  and it should have been been bumped up to around 2ev for an improved exposure.  Lots of noise reduction tamed it down even though its far from ideal for printing.  I just like the pose of this tree sparrow. K5 IIs, 300 mm f4 (1/800 sec. at f7.1, Iso 640) Levels + Exposure Brightness & Contrast, Dfine2..........................Jim

A very wintry photo indeed.  I like the pose, too, and all the detail in the feathers. That little branch in the upper left could be cloned out, I think, but all the rest of the branches add to the sense of chilly, snowy day.  Nice one!

I do like the pose and the snow on the branches.  This tree sparrow is really similar to the Golden crowned sparrow minus the crown.  Good detail and a good job and tough lighting situation.  Fill flash would have helped brighten up the plumage.  I agree that the uppermost left branch is a little distracting.
