Northern Flicker

I had four Northern Flickers land in my feeder area this morning all basically in the same one cubic meter area.  I believe there were three females and one male although it early enough that there wasn't much light.  I caught this one in the rain about an hour later.  I cloned away the raindrops because they were distracting.  I realize I should have been shooting at a minimum of F8 or F9 to get all the moss in perfect focus.  Please view large.

Iso-3200, 200-500 at 400 mm, F7 .1, 640th, -0.3 EV, fill flash at zero, D 500, tripod, DxO photo lab, ACR 10.2, Topaz adjust, TK sharpening action at 40%

Fine portrait of this guy, David. The exposure and detail are great and you handled the DOF very well. That bit of softness below the bird I think gives it some depth.

Excellent image, David.  You have a wonderful perch and a very good pose from this lady.  I like the bit of orange showing through from the tail.

Although the circumstance you describe do not sound that favorable, you got a fine shot out of it. Beautiful bird and shot ! Best, Hans

Wonderful detail and pose.  Good eye contact and nice soft light.  I am not seeing a major DOF issue.

Nice shot with fine feeling of intimacy.  Contrasting textures and placement of bird and perch work well.
