oak meets beech

While strolling through Rock Creek Park, D.C, I chanced upon a small section of oak bark lying amongst the  leafy detritus of the forest floor. I propped it against one of the many smooth bark beech trees for contrast. Chestnut oaks and American beech are common to Rock Creek Park.

Raw file processed in LRCC. TK resize/sharpening for web.

Advice and comments appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I appreciate that you tried something different. I have looked at the image for a while and two things that, at least from my perspective, are what struck me. One is that it did not hold my attention very long and two is the background was busy enough and in focus enough that it kept drawing my eye away from the main subject.
