Tiger and sambar
by Ajit Huilgol
My trip to Ranthambhore NP in June last year was, as always, a magical one. A tigress named Noor finally made a kill after 9 days. She had 3 one-year old cubs that hadn't eaten for that long, and were looking famished and listless. The prolonged fast ended when the mother brought down a large, male sambar deer (the largest deer in India). They would all feast well that evening and well into the following day. This image is one of the cubs peering out from behind a tree, eyeing the sambar kill and the surroundings.
