Waiting for the lake to thaw.  Huddled together for warmth?

I am enjoying this behavioral display which I find typical of Coots whether on water or ice.  The warm toned water doesn't contradict the cool nature of the situation.  I think the comp works well.

I like the huddled mass of coots here Allen.  I love the beautiful warm tones of the ice.

Sounds like a Disney title, Alan.  An interesting and beautiful image.  I like how they're all huddled together and the lighting works very well.

Allen, the golden glow off the ice really sets off the Coot "huddle" well.  As presented there's a fine "graphic" sense with the coots nearly silhouetted.  I wonder if you can dodge the coots to get touch more detail although that will change the character of the images somewhat.

I like this, Allen.  I'm surprised you got as much detail as you did on the birds.  I don't think I would try lighten them any more though, as it probably would lose the effect.  Even a silhouette approach would look good for this image.
