This picture was taken on a trip to Zion national Park. Was it a sunny afternoon it is hiking we noticed a tree hanging onto the side of a cliff. It looked like it been through a lot but it was standing strong. I wanted to capture the rugged environment and highlight the tree that was hanging on beyond all odds.

I like the composition, Ry, but the light is just too harsh. I love the old snag and the reds in the rock. It is too bad the light was not doing you any favors.

I like the comp, but it looks likes some haloing was introduced during processing.  Especially evident around the tree and left rock edge.  For this kind of shot, I would think a single raw, maybe on the darker side of the histogram would allow you to process this without any severe need to create haloing.  I would expect the tree to be darker anyway, so not sure you needed to brighten as much as you have done.

Ry, nice strong diagonal scene and the dead tree against the sky is nice.  I agree with Harry's comments about the halo.

The idea and the composition is good in this image. The exaggerated coloring of the rocks works for me and the rich texture is good, in fact, the best part of the image. I would not have dodged the tree but left it darker.
