12 disciples

I took this picture of the 12 disciples at the worst possible time for lighting. It was midafternoon I had to face into the sun. Water was very overexposed and the cliffs were very underexposed. It created a nice silhouette shot however. I recently sat down to the edit the photos from this trip. I dodged the cliffs bringing out some color and saturated the sky to bring in more color. Pretty much left the water where it was'  PS-  I have posted a B&W version based on Ginnys suggestion

The composition is really first rate. Even having the wave coming in from the left is great timing because it adds another line to the comp. There is a green cast to all of the cliffs and rocks that I would desaturate to bring out the browns.

Hi Ry,
What a lovely scene and great composition.  I love seeing the monoliths into the distance.

The underexposure made for a lot of noise when you dodged the cliffs.  I can also see some noise in the clouds.  It would be interesting to look at the underexposed version just to see how much dodging was necessary and whether less dodging would result in less noise so the comp can really shine.

Great comp. This might really work in B&W. It is really graphic.
For me, the sky looks a bit odd in this, but am on my phone, so  maybe that's it. The diagonal lines are super, though, and the brightness of the waves may work well in B&W.

MUCH prefer the BW, there's some strange colors going on in the original, ghoulish looking green cast.

Definitely the B&W version for me, Ry. I think the highlights along with the B&W conversion make for a much moodier image IMO. Looks like it could still use some noise reduction. This image is well worth making a few tweaks on.

I'm with the BW version.  It looks like you tried to introduce color and tones to an image with very challenging lighting to begin with.  Hence the noise and color casts.. I think the BW version avoids much of those issues.

The B&W for me. The color version has some very odd coloration, especially in the sky, that is not working for me. The tones in the B&W are very good, and much more appealing, Ry.

Ry, The b&w is working better for me. Sounds like it was very difficult light and it is always hard trying to make that back in post processing. It is a really neat looking place and maybe you will be able to return in better shooting light. enlightened Cheers, Nick

I like the BW version better but only because there are such weird colours and artefacts in the original post. I think it would be worthwhile re-processing the colour version as I know the scene to usually work better in colour.
