When in the grasslands of southern Arizona one spring, I awoke from a quiet night to this snow-covered scene.

This is beautiful, Doug. It looks as if you've done some artistic processing on it, or at least either photographed or processed it in high key. I like the way the shallow DOF keeps the focus on the oak tree.

That oak has a great shape, Doug. The snow covered limbs shows off that shape very well. The high key treatment looks good. Doesn't look like southern Arizona to me...

I love this one Doug. Nice handling of light and white. Excellent depth and amazing twisted, gnarled limbs, not to mention the frosted grasses. Great BW for the challenge.

Thanks for the comments. Nancy, it was an overcast morning with little color aside from white snow and gray sky, so easy to process high. I sure like the extreme quiet of night when it snows. Mark, leaving the saguaros and other desert cacti of Tucson behind, the land along the border rises into nice oak and grassy hills of 4-5000' then up to the sky islands with pines atop. Ed, those oaks do have nice character.
