American Goldfinch
by Dennis Plank
I was going through old files and ran across a special day from 2011 when a couple of goldfinches were nice enough to spend quite a bit of time perched in a Columbine near our pond. I posted a few images from that session including one that was only a few frames before this one. However, when I was paging through them, I preferred this head turn to the one I originally posted because it has slightly better eye contact. I decided it would be fun to reprocess it using more modern software and, hopefully, improved technique.
EOS 1DIV, 500mm f/4 + 1.4 TC, Jobu Gimbal on Gitzo legs, f/8, 1/1250, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV. Processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to 8.3 MP from a horizontal original. Taken June 1, 2011.
