Here's the first shot I'm sharing from our first Costa Rica workshop (what a great country for bird photography). This juvenile Bare-throated Tiger Heron was trying to scare off some Yellow-headed Caracaras from his hunting territory. Photographed lying on the sand of a river bank (with the guides watching to make sure no crocodiles were appoaching us)
Canon 1DX II, 300F4 1/1600 F6.3, iso 1250, manual exposure

Excellent action, Nate. The pose really emphasizes their territorial behavior. I'm confident Keith Bauer would agree that Costa Rica is a gem for wildlife imagery.

Great action, Nate. Always pays to be in the right place at the right time, and you captured it very well. Glad the crocs were kept at bay!

One of my favorite herons of the Tropics Nate. I’ve found surprisingly few opportunities to shoot immature Bare-throated. Excellent pose with not only a call, but a raised leg and spread wings too boot . Nice capture! devil

Very cool Heron. The low POV works pretty well on this Nate and the surrounding habitat adds to the sweet comp. I'd like to see these someday. Nice work!
