Dahlia Abstract

I was inspired to try flower abstracts after attending a lecture on the subject. The speaker made it sound easy, taking shots of flowers he saw on his way to work.  Not!

Canon 7d Mark II
100 mm macro
f2.8; 1/8 second
ISO 100

Thanks for looking.  Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Hi, Allen. Well, flora abstracts are "fun" in that they are challenging. Takes a lot of practice. This is fine— the dahlia being one of the most fun to work with. I like the colors. I like how tightly you framed the shot.
I  think it needs more of a pattern? Most of the petals are partial and pointing out of the frame. The dark triangle in the upper left feels like a dead space that wants for another petal.
Hope you'll keep working these subjects.

Love the strong sense of flowing colors here, Allen.  Shooting abstracts is NEVER easy!  It is a great way composition down into it's most fundamental elements (color and brightness).  In a largely monocolor view like this, you've removed even one more common compositional element (color).  The glow here is wonderful and that single orange tip in the midst of all the reds is a terrific accent.  I also like the back and forth eye movements that your comp. creates.

I find this easy on the eye.  I like your choice of colors.  Flowers are fun to shoot as abstracts or as is.  thanks for sharing.

Lovely flower abstract, and no, it's not easy! I especially like the curvy line at the bottom leading up and to the left. I might even consider a crop above that, turning this into square format. But it is great as is.

Very nice, Allen.  I love the colors and the curve of the one petal really appeals to me.  I'd be tempted to crop from the top to about a 4x5 to keep the emphasis on that one curve.
