Frosty

Here's an image from January 2016. I was attracted to the ice formations around this small rock in a stream, and also the way the water was boiling up behind it. I cloned out a few small icicle tips that hung down into the frame. Thanks for any and all comments on this one!

This is quite abstract. I like the iced rock and the water due to their textural difference. If possible, you might look at pulling a little more detail in the upper left corner. Nice composition and processing, Craig.

I agree that this is better looked at as an abstract with plumes over an island. I would give the entire image a faint bluish cast while keeping the yellow. I might also remove the bubble at bottom left. The best part of this image is the juxtaposition of sharp detail with the wispy water, which is done really well here. Good strong composition.

Nice mix of motion and icy firmness.  That adds a lot of tension in the image for me.

This is really viewed as an abstract. There is a lot in the image to keep the eye searching for a while.

This is a cool abstract. I like it as presented and I am seeing an alternative by cropping out the entire upper ice area and just presenting the round formation with the water above it. Totally different images, but I think both work.

This looks good, Craig.  the pair of frozen hearts make a great subject.  The moving water and the ledges of ice at the top add well to the story.

Craig, nice bit of seeing on your part to extract this from the overall scene. The way you have laid out the major elements here just pulls the viewers eye in to the image, this image has a lot of impact for me. I really like how you have the stream on a clear diagonal, that really creates a lot of tension in the image. Nice work.

Cool ice formation, Craig, set-off beautiful by the motion blur of the water. I could see playing with cropping out the top third of the image. The formation at the top does not add much IMO.

This is fascinating Craig.  It's also a bit mysterious as I'm trying to figure out the source and action of the water.  Looks like it's bubbling up from beneath, like a cauldron or something...  The shutter speed for the water is perfect for this scene.   I also think the elements are balanced nicely.  You've included enough of the top formation to tell the viewer you intended to include it and thought it was important.

A terrific abstract of nature - but of course includes plenty of reality and a nature story.

Great abstract mood here, Craig. I like the composition and effect of the water.

More of an intimate landscape than an abstract for me. I like how you've divided the canvas into three parts and the icy details. A wonderful winter image.

I missed this when posted Craig; very nice! The borderline abstract quality mixes well with this composition.
