Coming Together

This view over the Grand Canyon is one of my favorites and several trips have been made to catch a nice sunrise or  sunset.  The hopes for a colorful sunrise there were finally realized this morning.  A friend and I had this spot to ourselves, thus peace and solitude were enjoyed.

Doug,

Gorgeous - gorgeous sky and I just love how the color pallette in the sky is echoed so beautifully in the canyon.

If I had my druthers, I could do without the white feature at the bottom. But of course there are no crop options.  But honestly, I do like how the lighter triangle of rock is surrounded by the darker, larger triangle shape and together they come across as some directional finder of some sort (if that makes sense.  think of a divining rod or dowsing rod to find water.)  If  you thought that was odd, I also am thinking of a gargoyle.... overlooking the canyon.  Just justifying why I think the triangle shaped light rock bottom center works.  angel

Beautiful image no matter how weird your reviewer gets.

I love the sky here and the view is incredible.....
The land does not have the pop the sky does, it seem a little flat to me.
The comp is as nice as any canyon view I have seen.

Great sky color reflecting into the canyon.  The brighter rock protrusion does pull me more than maybe it should.  I encounter a similar situation from when I was out there last, and just darkened a bit so not as much an eye draw.  Since cropping does not seem an option unless you made more of a pano out of it, would maybe just tone it down a bit so it blends in a little more.  As seems the case with most images when opening the large version, the image appears much brighter.  For me, the canyon looks a bit bright.  Think you could darken the canyon - leave the water at current luminosity - so that the sky appears a bit brighter than the canyon in comparison.

Beautiful warm tone scene. I am with Lon and Harry about the foreground rock. Maybe either burn it down or clone it out? What a sweet sky!!!!! Maybe bring down the low/mids in the sky a bit more (gradient mask?) to add just a bit more contrast?

Thanks for your comments. The center rock thus been selected and darkened.

Gorgeous, Doug. Strong comp. and great light. I agree with the comments on the lighter color center rock. I would burn down the brightness a bit.

I agree with many comments. The similar color palette in sky and canyon works very nicely. If possible I would clone out the white rock rather than darkening it.

I like it as is.
I think it's gorgeous. Not just the sky, but the whole overall view. I am looking at it on a small tablet, but it still looks darned good. Such a big, sweeping vista! Sweet.

Doug, how wonderful, a spot to yourself and a fine sunrise.  The tonal balance is great with good details and colors in both the sky and the land.  I like the good view of the river curving it's way into the distance.
