Satin Reflections

Happy New Year to all. May 2018 be full of good surprises for you all!

I honestly can't remember if I posted this picture before, but it's not in my gallery so I will assume not. I took it at the end of November in the Sierras when the lake was partially frozen, almost like slush, which gives it the look of a long exposure. This photo was recently selected to be in an art exhibit in Yosemite and will be shown during the months of March and April there.

Thanks in advance for any feedback, suggestions for improvement, etc.

Canon 5dM3, ISO500, f/18, 200mm, 1/100 sec.

Kathy, this is pretty cool, in fact downright cold! The  icy surface really does make it look like long exposure. Good choice with the small aperture to get all of it in focus, and the hazy BG makes for nice layering effect. Thanks for sharing.

Very apt title - a gorgeous image. The snowy trees and soft reflections create a marvelously serene image.
Love it! And Congrats on being chosen for the exhibit!

I thought this was a long exposure, Kathy, until I read your posting comment. The soft reflection works really nicely, enhanced by the conversion to B&W. Well seen, taken, and processed.

You'll probably laugh at this but my first reaction to this was a group moving forward from right to left under very harsh conditions. The two men in the front are the leaders while the others huddle together. For me, the interpretive aspect of this image is it's greatest asset.

Kathy: Great find and a fine capture. I might crop a bit from the bottom but this looks great as is. Most excellent.>=))>

I like the contrasts and variety in textures of this scene, Kathy.  The soft, smooth ice contrast with the sharp linear lines of the tree trunks and the detailed but chaotic branches make for a third group that contrast with both of the others. A very pleasing winter landscape!

Kathy, it's a lovely winter scene with the "slushy" reflections adding a fine touch of dreaminess.  I really like how you've emphasized the closer set of trees and their reflections while you include a great sense of depth with the softer trees in the distance.
