Lineup at the Crane Pool

A popular early morning spot in the Bosque and an essential destination are the crane pools along NM 1 south of San Antonio. Many photographers gather there in the pre-dawn chill looking westward waiting for the first golden light from the east, a perfect place for early morning shooting. Often there are a thousand Snow Geese and hundreds of Sandhills there. Around sunrise the geese will take off in huge flocks, and the Sandhills leave in smaller family groups, all off to their feeding grounds elsewhere in the refuge. This morning I got a few frames of a gang gathered there. Raw cropped to panoramic.
