Sandhill Crane

Another photo from my Bosque workshop with Keith Bauer.  Hardly unique, but a bit different from the hundreds of cranes in flight shots I took (of which I'll likely post one).

Canon 7d Mark II
Sigma 150-600 at 500 mm
ISO 640
1/2500 at f6.3

Thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Lovely take-off shot, Allen.  One of my favorite crane "poses" and you captured it very well with that distinctive Bosque color palette.  Well done.

Very nice timing.  Love the take off run and the sense of motion it conveys.  Of course I also like the environment!!  Nicely captured.

Great timing, pleasing angle and wing position on the bird in beautiful light. I love how these larger heavier birds get a running start preflight. The stride and splashing water really emphasize that. Unfortunately my BIF shots there were a complete bust for some reason. Excellent work.

Actually pretty unusual to see a running Sandhill Crane. I like the pose with the outspread wings and the one foot about to enter the water and water coming off the trailing foot. Maybe a bit more room on the right or a small left crop to get the bid off of center. Fine otherwise. Richard

Wonderful action image Allen.  Nice you could catch this crane in such an interesting pose.  It seems a bit bright and could maybe use a little boost in contrast.  That debris on the water (feathers?) are somewhat of a distraction.  Nice catch!

I really like the warm light and the pose on this image.  I could see a little more room on the right side so that the bird was a little less centered.  I could also see using the spot healing brush to remove some of the grass just below the legs of the crane.  I do like the panoramic crop.  Nice job.

Really nice - love Bosque's golden BG's this time of year.
Great take-off pose, and the splashing water is sweet.
How do you like the 150-600?  Love mine, and LOVE not having to drag the 500 everywhere.

Sweet golden light and nice take off action Allen, I do find some of the foreground grasses distracting here. devil

Very nice pose and great timing Allen! If mine, I might consider a small crop on left and also clean up a lot of the white dots on the water. I kow that sounds time consuming, but it really gives a clean look and think it is time well spent.
