Antarctic Ice

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted December 6, 2017285 views3 comments
I photographed this ancient ice up close from a zodiac along the Antarctic Peninsula two weeks ago.  It obviously came from deep in a glacier as the crystalline nature of the ice indicates that over the eons all the air bubbles had been compressed out of it.  It looked like a mass of diamonds rather than an iceberg.  Canon EOS 7D Mark II, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM at 47mm,  manual exposure 1/400th f/10 ISO 200.  Best viewed enlarged.

Wow, those are some amazing convolutions, Charles.  They also look like breaking waves seen from above.  The textures are wonderful.  As an abstract, I think dodging the dark wedge along the lower left to brighten it to be closer in brightness to the other darker areas would be a good improvement.
