Forest Lake Panoramic
by Nick Bristol
This picture was made at Forest Lake during our fall trip in Upper Michigan. We were ahead of the color as you can see here but it was still a wonderful trip. This picture was made from the last 3 shots I made just before we left Forest Lake for another year or two. After putting the camera away I walked back down to the shoreline for one last look and then decided to go back and get my camera and tripod to make these last shots as a panoramic view. I think I did it mostly just as a view to remember but actually liked it after putting it together.
Haven't had time to be on here much just lately but that will probably change before much longer I think. Thanks for any thoughts.
Canon 5DMK4, 24-105L @100mm, ISO 100, F/11 and 3 shots stitched for the pano view.

12 commentsThis has a feeling of an old oil painting to me. Perhaps it's the handling of subdued coloration and microcontrast. This is particularly true of the vegetation on the right side where there is plenty of detail and color but no 'pop' to it. There is a lot of cloudless sky and frankly I like it that way. It's an image of peace, so negative space is very appropriate.

Great choice going back and creating this panoramic view. Of course I wasn't there, but I think just a standard grab landscape view would have been to ordinary - but you've transformed the scene before you to reflect your feelings about being there - at least I get that impression. It's times of the day like this that I reflect on all that my have transpired that morning. This captures all that.
again, the pano makes it for me, and without the layer of hovering fog, it also wouldn't be as special. Thanks for sharing.

A very pleasing, calm scene. This understated, minimalist composition is still very effective, a true case of "less is more' Nicely done.
