American Bison

I've finally finished processing my Yellowstone photos from three separate trips this year.  I didn't have as much success in the park as in past years (with the exception of a fun spring photo tour), but there were some opportunities to capture better images of some familiar subjects.  Among them, the ubiquitous American bison, our national mammal.  A couple of bulls were striding up the lower slopes of Mt. Washburn as I was driving over the pass.  I pulled over and climbed up the hill parallel to them in order to frame them with the mountains behind.

This is a very neat bison photo!  Must be looked at large to get all of the fine details including the wildflowers in the grass.  I would not change a thing.  IMHO a very special bison image.  Thanks for sharing.

Max: yours is a very special photo in that it has placed the bison against a spectacular mountain background, which is not typical. I really like the details seen in the coat being shed, the spring flowers and the bison's big eye. Congrats! Richard

I love this one Max. Great job getting the bison outlined by the mountains. Great light and overall balance. Details are right on.  There is a huge 3D effect with the large version.

Very nice detail in the dark fur of the bison. The mountain peaks in the bg add to the beauty of this image. I would probably put the bison a bit more to the left of the frame, though.

Great Bison shot, Max!  The background mountains really make this photo special.  Definitely not the average Bison photo devil

Thanks guys.  Ajit, I understand what you mean.  Of the entire sequence (which didn't last long with the brief alignment of bison and mountains) I chose this one because it was the best pose from the animal, thanks to that raised hoof.  And in terms of graphic elements, I didn't mind the mountain of a animal centered under the literal mountains behind, so it still worked out okay. enlightened

Love it.  Great light on the bull, strong diagonal with an impressive backdrop.  Well done.
