Morning Fog & raw file

I am making a rare appearance in the landscape gallery.  I have posted similar images to this one.  This was taken yesterday morning.  I always like the fog here on Henderson Inlet and I find this particular view to be quite serene when the fog starts lifting.  This one just has a few hints of color.

Before reading your commentary, my initial thought was "serene". Really like the atmosphere here.

David, this is a wonderful fall morning scene. I like the depth created by the fog. There seems to be some magenta and green color casts throughout the image, maybe due to increasing the saturation?

David,

Glad you decided to post in Landscape, this is beautiful!  Serene, tranquil, peaceful yeah all those synonyms... ; the fog and rising mist off the lake are special here.

Not sure if this would improve this or not, but I'm thinking about a small crop off the bottom to emphasize the symmetry?  But I do like the ripples at the very bottom, which are important in this view as it's presented.

I notice the same thing as Craig mention.  Have no idea the source of those colors - or what you could do about them.  But just thought I would chime in that I see the same thing as him.

Craig and Lon:

The fog here does really strange things.  This image was minimally processed and the only item that accentuated the magenta  color was in Topaz adjust using the "Simple pop" preset.  I went into the individual saturation adjustment and set the magenta saturation at zero and it made no difference.  So here is the original untouched raw file which basically has hints of magenta although not as much as what I posted.  Yes I could've turned it into a black-and-white.

David, this is a lovely, quiet foggy scene.  (Serene is a great description.)  I can hear the water lapping gently.  While I see subtle hints of color in the raw file, they are exaggerated in the original post to the point that they raise questions about the reality of the view.  I think it's important to understand and control our software, because we don't know what assumptions the software engineers built in.  (Adobe's huge increases in saturation as colors are darkened is a good example of creating unreal colors.)  Leaving such things in or keeping them out is an artistic decision.

I like the hint of color in the original except for the magenta. Have you tried using the controls on purple in ACR? It seems to differentiate between the two as I recall.

David, well here I ago against the flow...so to speak.  I really like the original.  This reminds me so much of a few foggy days while fishing in Canada.  Love it!

This is a beautiful scene which conveys a peaceful scene.  I agree with the other comments about the odd color artifacts.  I'm not familiar with the Topaz plugins so I don't have any suggestions for correcting it.
