Pick Your Color

Another from the eastern Sierra. I was really taken by the layers of color and the different colors in this scene. It was kind of challenging to find a coherent composition and this is what I came up with. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

I see how it would be easy to be overwhelmed by all the colors, making it difficult to look for a strong composition, but you certainly met that challenge here!   In addition to the strong diagonals, your inclusion of the second row of golden aspens and beyond created a nice repeating pattern.  The soft, but directional light creates subtle highlights that add a lot to the strength of the composition as well as to the textures.

A nice Autumn Sierra scene. I like the exposed trunks in the top center of the image. I thought there was too much foreground Aspen, but after a while a like 'em and the lower right exposed trunks..ties it together. Like those orange colors.

Harley, great job finding this composition amid the chaos. I like the diagonals and the assortment of colors, as well as the smattering of bare branches. The greener tree in the ULC does a good, subtle job of keeping my eye in the frame. I could see a crop off the right to remove the tree trunks in the URC, leaving the evergreen tree in that corner.

I like how you divide the frame into two part using the diagonal, Harley. The upper left part IMO is gorgeous, the return of the color palette is incredibly detailed. It is also great how the use of a telephoto lens makes the twist of leaves, trunks and branches as a painting. It is something I notice looking at many images with this type of subject, do you agree or is it due to something else in your opinion?

Harley,

Utah, right? Colorado?  Can't be the Eastern Sierra!  angel enlightened

Great find Mr. H. and great job isolating all the variety of color.  I really like the full range of stages of autumn here.  My eye stays engaged wanting to explore all corners.

Your processing is excellent and quite natural.  I know I would pop this a little more, but that's always our own personal preferences and yours works just fine.

I might agree with Craig. If any minor tweak it might be a very slight crop from the right to remove the first 3 bare, bright trunks in the URC. But not really a big distraction for me.

Hard to find in the Eastern Sierra and as Rudy pointed out, most all the color is along the canyon drainages.  Great find and great job isolating this comp.

The layers of colors angling across the view look great, Harley.  I agree with Wayne about how good the subtle lighting looks.

I think your composition here is excellent.  The strong diagonal lines and alternating color work well in the composition.  Nicely done!
