Black-capped Chickadee

Another from a week or so ago.  This was taken when I first started shooting from my new blind feeder setup and I didn't realize that I was going to have to back off on the zoom a bit even for birds as small as this.  Therefore, I ended up adding canvas to the top to give the bird a bit more headroom.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, Jobu gimbal mounted to blind window, f/7.1, 1/60, iso 1600, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped a bit from the left and added canvas to the top for a 20 MP 4x5.  I also removed a few oof needles that seemed distracting.  I like the needle in front of the bird for the sense of scale it provides.  This is a Douglas fir, so needles are 1 - 1 1/2 inches long.  Taken October 20th at 9:34 am.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Nice, detailed shot Dennis ! Actually the headroom wasn't all that necessary in my opinion, on the other it doesn't disturb either. Overall colors just great - well done ! Cheers, Hans

Well composed and nicely detailed.  I really like the perch.  The lighting is pretty typical of some of the mornings we have been having lately.

Chickadees are so very cute.  Beautiful colors here, and I love the perch.

Nice look at this little guy.  Sharp where it needs to be and your photoshop work looks great.  I rarely get to shoot these guys as they normally range only as far south as Humboldt County in California.

Sweet shot, Dennis, and very sharp. I think your choice of re-framing suits the pose, works well for 4x5 aspect, and exposure is nice. I'm intrigued by the catch light, looks like a skylight.

Thsi has such a nice color palette Dennis. Great closeup intimate portrait, with those amazing light greens. Sweet BG, I love it.
