The Fallen

I was up in the eastern Sierra last weekend. The color was all over the place, with some locations way past prime, some peak and some green.

Please have a look at the large version. The small does not translate well.

It's a beauty, Harley. This comp is very nice and I like the semi pano format. Beautiful colors and excellent detail. I really like the foreground grass, the leaning trees add interest and the mountains make a wonderful background. Very nice work!

You're wetting the seasonal appetite here with this fall scene, Harley. Looks like I'll miss out this year on the eastern area run. This image looks like some very prime color, and is a bit different with the domino appearance taking place. Might be a good name too, The Fallen Dominos....sad

The large version does translate really nicely Harley. Beautiful colors and I really like the "story" of the fallen trees leaning on their comrades. This looks like it may have been the result of recent wind storms throughout California.

The green pines create a nice background for the fall colors and it all works well with metamorphic rock.  I was up that way too over the weekend and the colors seem to be a week or two earlier this year.

Nice stand of color.  NE colors have been doing the same, overall late in NH.  Really like the trunk contrast with the trunks.

Beautiful, Harley. Looks like you found some groves at peak color. Real nice layering and the leaning trees add some additional visual interest. A couple of minor suggestions: I could see burning down the upper left corner and also reduce the brightness on the foreground grasses a touch.

Those learners are glowing, Harley.   Love the layering of texture and the very realistic color.  Looks like you found some great conditions.  Very nice.

Harley, I enjoy your composition making use of the diverse layers, the delicate structures given by the trees and especially your careful treatment of the wonderful autumn colors. My only wish would be to see this image as a large print, as I think a web presentation cannot do it justice.

Harley,

Ahhhh, Lundy... As many times as we've been there, it seems impossible to come up with something new with the same material... but you've done that here.  For me, the leaners, the falling, are the story and stars of the image.  Without the dynamics of those trees, this might just be another pretty image of the Eastern Sierra.

Put all this together in the narrow format, and I find this quite beautiful.

I wouldn't have come up with this on my own, but do agree with Dave on a slight burn/vignette in the UL to kinda match the UR. If that makes sense. More of a tweak than a nit.

The large view is exceptional.

Lon

ps. Didn't make it to Lundy this past weekend.  But had plenty of prolific shooting elsewhere. Sorry I missed you!

I really like the semi-pano crop and your composition, Harley. I do have some suggestions. First, I wonder how a slight darkening of the darks would look for a tad more contrast. Also, I am seeing some cyan in the background slopes. Lastly, you might consider burning the lighter background slope just a bit--maybe 10%, or so. I really like leaning trees and the various layers of color and texture.

That sounds like the fall colors in Montana, Harley, with some trees just now peaking when a half mile away there are no leaves.  I like the mix of leaves/no leaves and especially those leaning trees.
