Fish Eagle + Koi

This fish eagle took the easy route and plucked a koi from the camp manager's pond. A net went up the next day. Nikon D 500 and 80-400 lens at 1/2500, f/7.1 and ISO 2200. Richard

If I could attract birds like that, I'd put in a Koi pond tomorrow!  Excellent composition, Richard, and very good detail in the whites.

That's a big fish.

Good composition, and good image quality for that ISO.

I will echo both Richard and Dennis. My question is why ISO 2200, which is pushing the envelope for the D500, when you could have dropped to ISO 1000 or 800 and still kept a SS of around 1/400?

Thanks all for the comments. @Phil- I was anticipating the takeoff of the bird, thus the high shutter speed and high ISO. It did shortly after our arrival, but naturally flew with its back to me.

Dramatic capture Richard! Nice composition. I might suggest moving the image more towards center.  The right side of the picture looks a little crowded. Keep up the good work!

What a massive fish! Wish there was less clutter, but you take what you get! Where was this taken?
