Thank you for your comments on my recent postings!

Early in the morning after a massive thunderstorm near Sonora Pass, Lon and I revisited the trees and creek side at St. Mary's Pass trailhead. This downed log was still wet from the rain, which brought out the varied color in the weathered Lodgepole Pine.

I could not think of a better title for this image. If you have a suggestion, please post it. Thanks.

Preston,

I gotta lean towards Paul's comment.  At least for me this is my favorite and I think your best from the Sonora Pass trip.  I LOVE this image!

From what I recall, the patterns on this old log were numerous and you saw the potential in this with your fine selection.  I don't know if you or anyone else sees this, but I see a set of wings; in fact I see an eagle of sorts, including fanned tail feathers.  With that, how about "On the Wings of Eagles" or "The Eagle has Landed."  Ok, so the head of the eagle looks more like a Puffin, but who's to say?  :-)

In addition to the wonderful patterns and detail (corner to corner,) the processing is spot on; just the right amount of color, contrast and saturation. There is a richness to this; giving life to this fallen giant.

Absolutely gorgeous image, Preston. I love the array of colors and patterns that grab the viewer in the large version. I too can visualize a bird in flight as Lon already mentioned. How about In Flight or Take Flight for a title? This has a wonderful crispness and richness to it. Your processing looks perfect to me. Great eye to spot and isolate this intimate scene.

Excellent, Preston. Wonderful tones, details and textures. PP looks great. Only nit I can to suggest is to lightly burn down the upper left corner. It is a bit bright and I find it pulls my eye away from the central interest in the frame.

This is indeed perhaps your best tree bark closeup, although I liked the vertical brown image as well. For some reason this reminds me of the images people shoot of the rocks at Weston Beach at Pt Lobos. Its those colors and wild lines from sedimentary layers. The bluish areas mixed with the browns work real well. There is a lot of energy and freedom in those curves and bends. I do see the eagle wings Lon is talking about but what impresses me is that they seem to be moving. Lots of action here.

Due to the centric nature of the subject I think a square format would be stronger than the landscape used here. I am sendig you a suggested crop.

Wonderful image, and as always, perfectly processed.

Beautiful, Preston!!  I played with it a bit and I actually like it with a 90 degree CW flip. But then I am weird.........Either way, really excellent work. Well seen and executed.

I'm not good on titles but I love this shot. The swirling patterns in the wood and the multi-hued colors of the wood are really impressive.
