Heron and Jacana

The massive legs of a goliath heron wade through a pond while an African jacana patrols the shoreline in the background. A bit of a different composition from my shoot at the Lagoon Hide in Zimanga last year.

Max, this is pretty cool. While it might be way different, that only adds to its appeal for me. Fun take that I'm glad you shared.cool

Max, this is pretty cool.  I would like it also just with the part of the heron that you have in it also.  I think images of the legs of large birds are actually really impressive.

I agree - "cool" is a fine description of this unusual image.

Well seen and well done.

A nice original thought image.  It's very easy to get set in our ways and just do the old BOAS because that's what so many people like.  You took advantage of a really good opportunity.  I really like it.

A very artistic shot, Max, and quite appealing for my taste.  It may be my imagination, but the horizon looks just a bit skewed.

I don't know many photographers who would have even seen this image Max. Very nicely done! I LOVE thinking outside the box. Especially when it produces results like this one.

Thanks, everyone.  While I'm not the biggest fan of hide photography, there's no question that being stationed underground this close to the action presents some unique perspectives and photo opportunities.

Dennis, I see what you mean about the horizon.  In this case, I believe I used the ripple of water as my barometer for being "level," as I don't always trust undulating shorelines when it comes to determining a straight horizon.  The lines in the background do make it seem slightly tilted, but it's hard to say whether that's truly the case.

Love this other-than-usual approach. The light is awesome.. Have been looking at it for quite a while, and the longer I look the better it gets devil.. A gem ! Hans

Max, this is really unique and I love it. Great job of portraying and emphasizing the relative sizes of these birds.
