Something Different

This Snowy got pretty close after flying in and I couldn't quite fit him in the frame a few times. So I decided to try for a different comp than I would normally post. Sometimes it is nice to step outside my comfort zone to try and grow as a photographer. I was trying to keep a SS around 1/4000 or so because he was moving so fast, but the light popped out of the clouds right when I shot this if you're wondering why I had 1/8000.

1DX, 500mm f/4, 1.4 TC, 1/8000 at f/8, ISO 2000

This cropped composition works just fine for me. There's no reason I can think of to limit oneself to one type of image for any species - I like to get variety whenever the opportunity presents itself.

This sharpness. Good DOF. Looks white as it should without burning out. Nicely balanced.

A lovely and artistic presentation, Kurt.  Excellent job on all that white.  You might think about brightening the eye just a bit-I think it would put the icing on the cake.

Excellent job on the exposure.  And I do like the composition.  There is a pleasing crispness to the white tonalities of the image.

Excellent shot, Kurt.  I love the curved lines the wings make around his head.  The close in image with the wings spread is really neat.  Great exposure and detail as well.  I am hoping to get a chance to capture some shots of these in the next couple of weeks as I go up to the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  Ilike going to Assateague NWR just down into VA while I visit my hometown in MD.  I would be thrilled to get a shot like this!

Kurt, I like the tight composition here.  The strongest part of it is the winding delineation between the white bird and that lovely background color.

I love this shot, Kurt!  The composition you chose for this super closeup is spot on and very artistic.  Extremely good job of controlling the exposure.  That and the extremely sharp focus allow you to see all the gorgeous textures and details of the feathers. It was a smart move to go for the zoom and in my opinion it payed off, big time!  Very, very nice shot!  devil
