Continuing the Western Juniper 'Char-a-thon', this is the same tree as Lon's 'Charthedral' image posted a few days ago. This image is from a point closer to the ground.

This is a 3-image stack for depth of field.

Real nice display of lines, shapes and colors. The reds and blues contrast quite well.  The wood almost looks varnished! This turned out real nice. No suggestions here, processing looks good to my eye.

I like how your and Lon's tree images are starting to look like slot canyons.  That inner glow really pulls the viewer in.

Beautiful Preston.  Love the luminescence of the char and the color combo works real well.  No suggestions from me, a sweet keeper for sure.

Excellent find, Preston, with the colors in the middle doing a fine job of capturing the sense of the fire still burning.  The charred areas look great as well.

The luminosity of the image really gives a 3-d effect, very nice.  The slightly blue highlights go well with the other colors.  Intriguing.

Preston,

I continues to amaze me how different photogs see things when they're standing right in front of the same subject.  BTW, that's a good thing, right? ;-)

So, great job pulling this out from the bigger tree picture.  Aside from the great lines, patterns, etc., what strikes me is the nature story that's being told here.   Not just of the obvious fire, but to me, the healing or in this case what looks to me like a wound or scarring, or something that wasn't quite touched by the fire.  Makes one think of what happened - even though we're just talking about a lightning-induced fire in an old Western Juniper...

Great job with the processing.  I like the golden hues as well as the touches of blue from the sky above.

Nice work PB!

The large version is amazing and packed with some wonderful details and textures, Preston. This has a wonderful luminosity to it and I find that one area not scarred by the burn particularly striking as it contrasts nicely with the rest of the tree.

I love the rich tones and geometric pattern Preston.  The exposes red and yellow of the trunk add an extra element of interest.

I like this kind of "What else it can be" images. Really fascinating colors and textures and great details in the larger version.

An interesting companion to Lon's image with that sliver of colour providing a nice contrast with the darker and more regular patterns.

Another gorgeous "char-a-thon" image; wonderful colors and patterns, love the "glow" of the whole image, well done.
