Northern Flicker
by Dennis Plank
I posted a head shot of this bird a bit over a month ago, but I also liked the pose in this one. The perch is an old split rail that I had laid beside my little pond as an experiment. I've since removed it, but I did like the way it worked in this image. The bird is a bit more crowded than I like because I was trying to avoid a very bright rock on the left.
Design note: If you want a pond with rocks look for dark ones as the lighter colors look really ugly in images.
7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 267 mm, tripod with ball head and Sidekick, f/8, 1/800, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV. Processed in LR & PS CC. I ended up having to crop from the right and top after avoiding the bright rock, so the final size was 14.9 MP. Taken July 16, 2017.
Your critiques are very much appreciated.

2 commentsThe flicker looks nice. He must have been digging around looking for ants. I like the pose and you were able to fuzz out the BG. Well done......................Jim
