Tri-colored Heron

This one was taken at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas, Texas this past spring.  I hope it's still there as the barrier islands can come and go in a hurricane of Harvey's magnitude.

I always liked th e"ninja" poses these birds assume while foraging, some of which look extremely awkward.  While I would have liked a bit of a head turn in my direction, I still liked the pose in this one.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 200 mm, hand held, f/7.1 (I probably should have stopped down and raised the iso a bit), 1/400, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 16.3 MP before resizing.  Taken at 9:03 am on March 25th, 2017.

Your critiques are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis, now that's my kind of venue! I have countless Tricolors in my files. They are my favorite subjects for their cool poses.

He sure posed nicely for you, Dennis.  Wonderful image, with great detail in the subject.

Hi Dennis
The head turn is nice and the pose is great.  Nice work.

Excellent composition.  Terrific pose and the water is real interesting.  I agree that you probably should have increased your iso and shot at F8 or F9 to increase your detail on the rest of the Heron.
