This is one of my favorite series of cascades in the Sonora Pass area on Deadman's Creek.
I opted for a slightly faster shutter speed in order to retain some detail in the falling and churning water. The image was made in late afternoon under scattered cloud cover. The warmth of the granite is due to pink feldspar and the late hour.
A note about Deadman's Creek: In the mid 1800's, a wagon train came from the east, up and over Sonora Pass to the Goldfields In the Sonora/Columbia area. Somewhere on the east side of the pass, one of men was bitten by a rattlesnake. He passed away very near where this mage was made. His grave still exists in a red fir forest just down-canyon. There is still evidence of the old wagon road in the canyon.

6 commentsI'm really enjoying the wonderful water gussying here. Not too much where I spend my photo ops at. The composition is excellent.
I'm kind of wondering about some more contrast or saturation here?.....
Not sure unless others see the same thing. I can appreciate trying not blow highlights here in the very light rocks and of course the water. So, it would be a mild upward tick for sure, if possible.....
I know you struggled with the color/temp, but I'd say what you've settled on is spot-on. You know all too well, but much of the granite up there does have a rosey/pink/feldspar color to it.
The composition is lovely and captures the falls, creek and boulders beautifully. I think you've included just the right amount of rock at the bottom to provide a base and a means of corraling the pool of Deadman's Creek.
Well done sir. I have no nits or suggestions. It's a wonderful spot to just stare... and imagine the history of this particalur piece of Sierra history.
