A neat view, John, with the beetle showing off it's antennae so nicely. The view has me thinking of a leader at the podium getting ready to speak or get the conductor about to tap the music stand to get the orchestra going....(in my head, I can hear all of the instruments tuning up in the background!)

Hi John,
The beetle is Stenocorus meridianus. Nice shot and its good that you captured the beetle without cutting off the antennae. BG is nice.......................Jim

Delightful and colorful, John. The detail, settings, comp and posture make this a fine macro.

Nice background with a hint of browns like the beetle's wing-case. Great dof on animal (even including the tips of the antennae!) and fern. Beautiful colours in soft light. I like the central position in the horizontal direction but slightly less in the vertical direction. Therefore my suggestion is to lower the beetle, if possible, by adding some more of the green background above. Or, to obtain the same effect, a crop to square. Not really essential, just a suggestion.

Excellent detail, John. I like the natural background and the heart shape bracken. Your first image works well as is for me.

Thanks for trying my suggestion. "Of course", I prefer the repost... At a second glance I realize that the fact the unfolding fern is almost as big as the beetle is another aspect which makes this a nice image.

What a shot, John. Love the detail in the beetle and the flower stem that he is on. That background really does compliment the subject. Nicely done. Mark's comment is right, he does look like he is a conduct at the music stand.
