Wearing The Crown

Hey All!

It has been a long time since I have posted.  Life has been in the way for the most part, but I have still been browsing and making photos when I can.

Like most, I was poised on the totality line in Central Oregon for the eclipse.  I was attempting to get as maximum a corona with detail as I could.  This one has a corona, that as best as I can measure, has a radius of 2.5 time the radius of the sun.  I was hoping for more, but I would start losing detail on the inner areas.  With the longer exposure, the deep azure bule of the actual sky color that I saw started to show up in this image as well.

With that longer exposure, the "Little King" Regulus showed up as well but this time, its not wearing the crown, that honor goes to the moon. cool

Nikon D2x, Nikon 400mm f/5.6 telephoto, at f5.6 and 1/8 sec at ISO 200.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I also forgot to mention this image also shows two prominences as well, one at about 11 o'clock and the second at about 2:30.

Very nicely done.  I like the dark blue in the sky.  You caputred the detail in the corona nicely.  The Regulus also adds some nice interest to the frame.

I did some more work on this coronal image.  I had taken 8 different exposures during totality to attempt to get detail throughout the entire corona.  I did some serious composite work all day and combined the 8 exposures through a series of subtractions, offsets, adding and multiplying, coupled with a hefty use of Tony Kuyper's Triple Play actions.

Exposures are all taken at ISO 200 with f5.6 aperture with the following shutter speeds 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250 and 1/500 seconds.

I think the image is much better now.

Your thoughts Appreciated.

Very nice, Youssef! It is good to see you here again. Hopefully, you will be around here more often!

You got some excellent detail in the corona.

The repost is awesome, Youssef.  Well worth the work in post.  Just outstanding.  I might clone the bright spot lower left as it definitely doesn't need to interrupt the cleanliness  of the image.  Well done.

Hey Youssef, great to see a post from you.  Of course it had to have the moon in it! ;-)

Another great capture of the eclipse.  I particularly like the cobalt blue color temp here.  Glad you got to see this!

Very nice Youssef, and I like the inclusion of the star. My own image has that as well.

As others have said, that blue tone is great. You were able to get a lot of detail in the corona through combining exposures. Very nice work!
