Not of the Same Feather

I have always heard the expression "birds of a feather, stick together", but these two didn't seem to mind sharing the same boey.  I took this with my Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 100-400 mm L with the 1.4 teleconverter for a total reach of 560 mm, handheld on a moving boat.  Settings were f8, 1/3200, ISO 640.  Cropped to 55% of full frame.

A good environmental shot.  The color, detail, and light are well done.  I do think you could probably crop it a little more and remove more of the perch and surrounding water.  I realize you've already gotten rid of a lot of the frame but it might be worth trying.

Good shot of the pair in their environment. I could see cropping to give more emphasis to the birds, but the way it is now sets the scene well, particularly with the number showing.  Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy seeing shots of pelicans.

Nice detail and eye contact in both birds, Shirley.  If you have more canvas on the right, I'd be tempted to move the birds left.  I don't think it will hurt anything to crop off the left part of the buoy.  If you're into cloning, you might also consider removing the bright streak right at the horizon above the birds as it draws my eye quite a bit.

I see this all the time during migration, with the Double Crested Cormorants perching with Brown Pelicans. Good
