Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia)

Place: Stanfield, AZ
Date: August 10, 2017, 9:34 am
Equipment: Nikon D7200, AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR @ 450mm, bean bag on  car window
Exposure: ISO 800, Aperture priority matrix metered, 1/1000th @ f/8
Raw, PS CC 2017 on Mac, cropped to 84% of full frame

A recent shot for a change. Taken on an unsuccessful chase of a reported vagrant. My consolation prize was this Burrowing Owl on the berm of the dirt road.

Nicely composed.  Good detail and a clean complimentary background.

Excellent shot of this owl, Richard.  I love the fact that he is showing his back to you (most shots are front on), allowing us to enjoy the feathers even better, yet has the head turned towards the camera/viewer.  Wonderful detail, and as Allen said, the background compliments him nicely.

You captured a nice pose and I like the clean background.  Seems somewhat dark on my monitor as presented?

Nice moment and the slight off center comp works well.  Good one.

Killer background. Other than a bit more room at the bottom, can't think of anything I would change. Well done.

Quite a consolation prize, Richard.  I like the brown palette and you caught a nice pose at just the right angle.    Excellent image.

This is a really nice image of this Burrowing Owl.  I am enjoying the variation of its plumage and the level of detail you were able to get.  Very nice foreground and background.  The composition is perfect.  It is a nice change to see a brownish background after all the green that I see here in the Pacific Northwest.
