I took this last week at the Botanical Gardens with my Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 100-400 mm L lens, with 1.4 X teleconverter attached (total 560 mm), handheld at f8, 1/400 (meant to be higher, but I was shooting manual exposure and didn't change it), ISO 1250.  I was pleased that I could hold it that steady and get the shot this well.  I cropped it to around 60 % of full frame.  Comments and suggestions welcome.

Beautiful complimentary colors Shirley. Really nice smooth BG.  The wing tip on the near side is a bit soft.  I have struggled with this same lens/TC combo to get crisp clear shots.

Shirley, gorgeous specimen, attractive perch, sharp where it needs to be. The swallowtails are active and always moving. Nice capture of a tough subject.

A lovely image, Shirley.  Excellent details in the bf's body and hind wing as well as in the flower.  There are always dof issues when the wings are partially spread or on some bf's that flap their wings constantly as they nectar.  I don't think that matters here with the clarity in the body and hind wing.

Just a gorgeous shot all the way around. Tack-sharp, great colours, clean BG, and perfect DOF.
