Delicate Pink Rose

Photo from a public garden in Golden, CO.  D800, lensbaby, probably f 8 (lensbaby f stop does not show in metadata), handheld, ISO 400, 1/400 sec.

I have been experimenting with this lens, trying to learn how to use it.  Its strictly manual focus and the optics of the lens make seeing what IS in focus difficult at first.  Comments and suggestions always welcome.

Regards to all

I think this is really nice.  I like the composition with the center of the rose up towards the corner.  I like the gradation from light pink to darker pink.  There's a softness to the photo that gives it an ethereal feeling.  Well done!devil

Kathy: This reminds me of the intimate rose images of former moderator Ram Pai. Take that as a high compliment. Lensbaby is tricky but I think you got a really nice result. Most excellent.>=))>

Bill Fach

Thank you so much for that very high compliment!!  I visited this site for years before I had the courage to join and I was a great admirer of "Ram".  Studying the work of so many of the artists here is so very valuable in learning this craft.

Best

A beauty, Kathy. The softness works well for the subject and color, and I like the comp. Very artistic.

Kathy, beautiful swirly curves and soft colors. You did a great job capturing the delicacy.

Very delicate, very well made dreamy pink Rose. My OCD says not enough detail, but my artistic sense says "don't you wish you had made this?"sad

Wow, Kathy, this is really great, especially considering a lensbaby.  I have had 2 of them, and so far I haven't done so well with them.  You are encouraging me to dig it back out and see what I can do with it!  Very nice image indeed.

Hi Shirley Freeman

Thank you for that comment!  I have to say that the lensbaby has given me more headaches and back aches than any other lens  I take it out and put it away ,,,,,,frustrated just as you say.  I finally decided to carry it with the 60 mm macro and shoot with the 60 mm first , then shoot the same flower with the lensbaby.  Also, I set the bellows to one position and pretty much keep it there, at least for now.  Both of those adjustments have seemed to help, for what that is worth.  Its still very hit and miss.

Very nice, Kathy.  I do like the effect you got with the center of the rose so nice and sharp and the beautifully soft outer area.  A lovely image.

Kathy, thank you for your comments on my 'delicate' Rose, pleased that you chose the title albeit unintentionally. I think the title is fitting and I feel that the photo of your rose has a certain elegant look about it, like a well dressed lady.

So delicate and lovely, but it's hard to believe that we wouldn't tire of seeing the inner circles of a rose blossom. You've raised the bar for this kind of shot, and congrats on the Weekly Pick. Well-deserved.
