Trillium and Mt. Hood

Hi Folks,
This is my last shot from Trillium Lake.  As indicated in my preceding post, I was cursed with clear skies and nice weather that weekend.  I think I got two interesting images, mainly for how the mountain reflection got the "cracked mirror" effect.  I'm interested in whether you find this one at all compelling.  One of my processing is to "put to bed" any folder of images that doesn't really have any keepers in it, and I think this might be one of those files.  I don't trash the folder, but it does get moved to a less conspicuous location on my hard drive.

As always, I appreciate any feedback, suggestions, etc. you feel motivated to give.

I think this is an interesting look at a familiar sight.  I like the reflection and how the water in the upper part looks as if it is on a different level from the water in the foreground.  The foreground rocks are a nice element.  I also think the geometry is interesting with all the different triangles present.  One suggestion would be to use the dehaze slider to bring out more contrast in the mountain and its reflection.  Also, I'm puzzled as to why this is in Man and Nature as I can't see any hand of man-you'd get more comments in Landscape, I'm sure.

Hi Allen,
Thanks for the feedback.  I'll play with dehaze on the mountain and share if it adds some pop.  Sometimes I like to keep some haze because it signals distance.

As for the Man and Nature category, this face of the mountain has an almost square patch that is the Palmer Glacier with a ski lift running down the left side of it.  In retrospect, it's not visible in this light even in the larger image, but since I know it's there, I feel compelled to keep it there.

Good question though, and perhaps one for the moderators to clarify:  If a man-made element is not clearly visible, but in the scene nonetheless, does that place the image in this gallery or in Landscape?

The problem, as I see it, is that Landscape receives considerably more comments than Man and Nature.  If the point of NPN is to help us improve our work through comments/critiques, then I think the "hand of man" issue needs to modified to some degree to allow photos like this to be placed in landscape.  You might consider changing the gallery to landscape, note your concerns, and let the moderators decide.

Thanks, Allen.  I might do that.  I am adding the black and white conversion as well as one with some mountain dehaze.  Feel free to comment on either or both.  We do seem to be alone here in this gallery for now.

And here is the BW conversion from the same file.

I'm not sure I see a lot of difference with the dehaze filter.  I thinks this works well in black and white, but feel there needs to be more contrast in the mountain-around +60 on the dehaze filter.  But, I can see this depends on where the emphasis is in the photo.

Marylynne, I like this very much just as it is. It has a very natural look which I like but most of all is the absolutely wonderful mood. It feels so peaceful, quiet and rather lonely. All I need now is the sound of a loon in the background. Love that! I like this light and how it added to the mood, so for me this image works and I quite appreciate the feel it has.
The b&w looks good but I do prefer the mood/ feel of the color.

Lovely light on the top of the mountain and its reflection, and the feeling overall is so peaceful. It's hard to make it look too dramatic with clear skies. It's a little dark for my taste, and the right side is a bit heavy. I like the rocks in the foreground, though. As to whether or not to give up on it, that's your call! I think you probably intended this to be in the Landscape gallery.
