This is a full frame portrait of a Stellar's Jay with a little added canvas because I was really close. Taken at about 6:30 AM., before the sun hit the perch but with fully lit glowing background. I like the pose.

Iso 800, 600 mm, F9, 640th, D 500, full frame plus, tripod, Topaz and TK actions, white balance set for shade.

Absolutely gorgeous shot, David! The detail in those feathers are excellent. I had to smile when I read that you had to add to the canvas because you were too close. Most of us have to crop too much because we aren't close enough! I am thinking of getting a 300 mm f4 prime (L lens with Canon), and a 2X teleconverter, giving me 600 mm reach. What do you think? I know you are shooting Nikon, but just thought maybe you might could give your opinion on a pro 300 mm lens with a 2X. Appreciate that. I would love to get a shot like this! This is at least a calendar quality image.

Amazing feather detail, David, both in color and texture and along with the complementary yellow bokeh make for a stunning combination. Wow!

Great close up view. Excellent detail and contrasting colors. Great background lighting and nice pose. Your title makes me wonder if you're a UCLA fan?
