Brown Bear & Clam

Hard to believe that I was actually out on the tidal flats at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, Lake Clark N. P., AK for several days last month observing and photographing brown bears as they clammed during low tide (the maximum tidal range for one of the days that we were there was over 27 feet).  I had packed my 500mm lens for the trip but found I didn't really need it there at the lodge.  I was more comfortable using my 100-400mm lens either handheld or on a tripod.

I love the muddy feet and debris in mouth.  If you have more space to include more of the tidal flat and all of the reflection, it might be a worthwhile alternative for a different feel.

Paula: the techs are spot on. There is a watercolor feel to the photo with the pastels in the water and the golds in the bear. My only suggestion would be to have included the entire reflection if possible. Richard
