High Key Whoopers

I took this image in high key out on the ice of Lake Kussharo in Hokkaido a couple of years ago.  I was lying in the snow among the Whooper Swans to get it.  I did very little post processing.  Canon EOS 6D, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM at 35mm, manual exposure f/8@1/180th, ISO 200, external flash.

Very nice, Charles.  The whites on the geese stand out surprisingly well and the yellow and black make neat accents.

Hi Charles,

I like this one--Herding swans is like herding cats.  You captured the scene quite well and the swans subtle shading keeps them from melting into the BG. Good job!..............................Jim

The white on white looks good, Charles and it sure makes the black legs and orange beaks pop.  It's great that you got a clean grouping filling the frame.

Charles, this is really nice. I love the low angle, and the arrangement of swans is quite nice, even with the two hiding their heads behind the others. I love the clean background and foreground, with the swans almost floating in the frame, but still anchored by their little bits of shadow. Well done!
