Sossusvlei, Namibia, Africa

<div>

I don't think I have ever posted in this forum normally I stick with landscapes as I don't really have the gear or lenses needed to take a more active role so I hope you like it.  The Gemsbok or Oryx are perfectly adapted to travelling vast distances in very arid conditions and the Namibian sand dunes and Vlei are certainly no barrier in respect of immigration to these stately looking antelope in their monochromatic coats. This is one of my two favourite pictures I took whilst away in Africa, the vivid chroma of the environment contrasts so strongly with the beauty of this gorgeous creature.

Typically one would hope for a little more view of the face, especially eye or eyes, but in this instance the slightly angling away orientation seems to lend a mood to the stark, lonely landscape.  I like this very much for your keen compositional eye, and the great colors, as in rich blue sky offset by  red soils,  and the gemsbok serving as a perfectly placed brighter accent.  My one wish would have been for the front legs to not be stacked to show separation for greater sense of balance for the subject.  Oh yeah, I fully agree...view LARGE.

Thanks Lon

I thought the same about the legs.  I do have another version where the legs aren't stacked but the face is slightly more turned away.

The landscapes in Namibia are truly amazing, the addition of the oryx just makes it betterdevil
