Western Tanager

While this species isn't particularly uncommon around here, it's a forest bird and, living on a prairie, I rarely encounter it.  This is the first time I've gotten a decent shot of either sex.  This lady came to bathe in my blind pond this morning.  Hopefully, she'll convince one of the local males that he should bathe more regularly.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 421 mm, tripod with ball head and Wimberley Sidekick, f/8, 1/100, iso 1250, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  A slight crop.  Taken at 8:25 this morning under cloudy skies.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Nicely composed with a solid eye contact and good detail.  I have been so impressed with the results you get with this camera/lens combo that I ordered the Sigma lens this morning, possibly to replace my Canon 100-400mm version 1.  Any tips you would care to share would be appreciated.

From this POV you could easily tell me this was a small creek in red rock country.Real nice detail, color, and composition on this image.  I saw one male Western Tanager at my house last year for a fleeting moment.  They are very pretty birds.

Nicely taken and the soft light worked well for you. Detail in the Tanager is sharp and the pov is pleasing. Great work Dennis!

A bathing beauty, indeed, Dennis. Nicely captured. The soft light worked very well.

What a beautiful bird, Dennis, and the setting for it just adds to the beauty.  Well done.  I am sorry I haven't been on here lately to comment, but I was out of town.  Have a few shots though that maybe I can share soon.
