Hiding in Plain Sight

This camouflage looper caterpillar has adorned his body with parts from this flower.  If you look closely, you can see his head as he climbs down on the right side.

I hope you don't mind, that I'm a few minutes late posting this.  He's pretty cool, and I had some touch up issues.

This is hand held, with me on the ground.  This was the first photo I took of him, so it's not quite as crisp as some later...but it has the DOF, that I want.   I didn't even realize what he was until this photo was shot.  I enlarged the screen on my camera and was delighted, that this was, indeed, a living entity separate from the flower.   He was so small, that I wasn't sure what he was with my naked eye sad

I posted the same caterpillar a week or so ago in macro...an awesome inchworm pose.  But, it was not on the flower itself, so I felt I should post this one instead for the challenge.

I wondered if you were going to post this, Lucy.  A superb example of camouflage use in a different way than most of our posts on this challenge.  An incredible find.

This certainly puts your looper into context and shows off its camo very well, Lucy.  Since the posting time is 90 minutes late, I'm going to declare it as too late to include, but it is a great look with good sharpness on the looper and your presentation is very attractive.

Hi Lucy. This is a great look at the camouflage looper on a flower doing its camouflage thing. Although late for the weekly theme (and I think it was actually posted one day and 90 minutes late rather than just 90 minutes late, unless I am missing something), it's a wonderful shot and perfect for the camouflage theme. I also like the black bg which lets the looper really stand out. devil

Yes, I knew it was too late, but my hours are crazy.  I have chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic Lyme disease, and a reactivated Epstein Barr virus.....so my energy is erratic with long bouts of fatigue.  I try to take advantage of.any energy, no matter what time it is.....it just happened to come late that.night.

It was amazing to realize that the lump on the caterpillar was a LIVE creature!   I did choose to remove any distractions including the flowers stem, so the caterpillar could Really Be Seen🦋🐛

Google camoflauge looper videos.  There are some.cool.videos.of.the caterpillar picking each petal , gumming it, then carefully placing it in specific spot on its body.  His decorations depend on what flower he's on.  I'd love to find one with purple petals! blush

Lucy,

I like this shot. This shows how well some insects conceal themselves from predators............................Jim
