When All Lights Are Out

This is another Milky Way shot on my last vacation when camped in a dark sky area. Included in the photo are a canoe dock, and flowing fog, and moving clouds. The lights on the horizon were from a small town of 5000 people 66 kilometers away.

Do you like the image? How does the image look to you? Does it appear natural in colors?

Thanks

This is a beautiful MIlky Way image, Bo. The colors are great and the contrast between the sharp night stars and longer reflections on moving water is lovely. I like this one better than the last night image you posted. The fog adds a nice feeling to it.

Those conditions are incredible.  Love the bit of fog on the water.  Would see about doing some NR in the fog/water area.  Havent decided if I like the reflection of the stars or not.  It's cool but b/c they are moving kinda distracting.  Still a super neat capture and love that dock.

Thanks for all of your comments.

The reflection of stars is natural - whether or not it's distracting. I would have cloned it out except that it would look unreal. It is 20-second exposure that would not make star trails obvious in the sky, but reflection in the water is a different story.

The fog was unexpected - in fact I was hoping for a clear night. However it rained and there were clouds in the sky. The fog was due to moisture in the air. But it added interests to the image.

Awesome image, Bo!  I think the colors are fine. I wasn't sure about the star reflections at first, but now I think they provide a nice contrasting "movement" to the stars.  The only thing I might have done to the image is to slightly mask the spot of brightness of light on the shore with a very soft grey "burn" in PS to make sure it's not seen as a distraction.
I could look at this image for hours--thanks for sharing!

Fantastic night sky image.  I especially like the color balance.

Due to the presence of the dock I am going to move this to the Man & Nature Gallery.
