Blind Interruption

Two days ago I went back out to the blind just before lunch because we still had favorable light and when I did this fledgling Barn Owl flushed and flew to the line of firs at the back of our property and stayed there until dark.  We have a Barn Owl box facing the copse where the blind is and when they fledge, they often choose it as a daytime roost.  This year the parents were very circumspect and we had about given up on having a brood.  It turned out that this one's sibling was also in the the copse trees so I stayed out of the area yesterday.  It looks like they've dispersed as I checked it today and didn't find any owls.  Usually, once all the young have fledged, the parents take them elsewhere to teach them how to hunt.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, tripod and ballhead.  f/10, 1/800, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped from a horizontal original to a 7.7 MP 4x5 vertical.  I removed one very distracting branch to the right of the bird.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

This is really cool, Dennis.  You sure are blessed with all kinds of avian in the area of your blind, and that is so awesome!  I know you are really enjoying yourself!  Wonder capture, great detail, and I just love that side glance that he is giving to you.

Wonderful.  I love the complementary colors and the nice catch light in the eyes.

I've seen plenty of owls, but I have yet to see a Barn owl around here.  Some day soon, I hope.

Dennis, the haughty over-the-shoulder pose really makes this for me.  I'm envious that they are so easily within your reach.  I have Barred owls in my neighborhood but haven't yet found them, being such masters of camouflage cheeky

A very different pose from this bird Dennis.  I like it.  Techs all look good, but wonder if you can tease any more light from the left eye, which looks partially visible.  Nice to have barn owls on your property.  I hear horned and screech owls, but have never seen either here.

You managed a really nice head turn in this one Dennis. I also love the light and the darker BG makes this one pop off the page.
