Coast Guard Rescue

This lady flipped her kayak, and could not get back in. Fortunately, I was on our deck watching our new baby osprey in their nest. We called the Coast Guard, who have a station here, and they raced out to rescue her.

In this 52 degree water temperature, one has about 10-15 minutes before becoming too hypothermic to function or survive. She was in the water perhaps 10 minutes. After an overnight hospital stay, she was able to go home, much wiser, I  hope.

At least she had a lifejacket on. Most don't. There was a guy last week WAAAAAY out on a paddle board - barefoot, no lifejacket, nothing but shorts on.  He woukld NOT have been rescued in time unless a boater already out there saw him.

Sandy: the kayaker owes you a great deal of gratitude. Hopefully a lesson learned on her part. Kudos to you and the USCG. Richard
