Sinister

I thought that this shot of a wet Common Grackle preening, with its nictitating membrane covering the eyes made a sinister-looking image.  To reinforce that dark feeling, I converted to black and white in Nik Silver Efex Pro 2, adding high structure and some extra film grain.  I reduced the opacity of the B&W layer to 85% to bring back a hint of color, and did local curves adjustments to complete the effect.

Canon 7D Mark II; Sigma 150-600C
1/800 sec. @ f/8; ISO 1250
Handheld from canoe
22% of full frame
Photoshop CC + Nik Silver Efex Pro 2

P.S.  The original color version is in the Avian Gallery:  "Sinister Grackle"

I love this effect Wayne. Thank you for describing your processing too. The feathers really pop, the hint of color really adds to the sinister mood too. Nice work.
