Golden Sphecid

This wasp was one of hundreds seeking nectar from a small clump of desert milkweed near Barstow, CA this weekend. The milkweed seemed like it was the only thing in bloom, and hence the only thing the bees and wasps were interested in. Canon 5Diii, f22, 1/200 sec, iso 400, 100 mm macro, compulsory flash, handheld, about 70% of original frame.

The details in the wasp are outstanding, Ed, and your comp. works very well.  Milkweeds are a major nectar source for many insects.  In our butterfly count last Saturday, we'd stop at a field, look for the Milkweeds and/or Dogbane patches and head for them to find the butterflies.
