Divided We Fall

This is a waterfall on the mountain at the "Narrows" which is the narrow inlet to the Valdez Bay @ Valdez, Alaska.  This photo is actually just the top portion of the falls where the single stream hits a rock protrusion and splits into two streams.  I normally wouldn't center the falls in the scene but the various large and small 'V' shapes in the scene begged to be centered. I had the 70-200 on the camera because I was hoping to see whales and sea otters so I used it for this shot since I wanted a close up view anyway. I'm glad I did because that lens has impressive resolution which resulted in lots of very fine detail in this scene (view large).

Sony a6500, FE 70-200 f/2.8 GM @ 82mm, ISO-100, f/8.0, 1/400, hand held on a rocking boat (the a6500's 5-axis internal stabilization really paid off).

Nice textures, colors and waterfall. The centered composition works well, but I think with my own personal tastes that if I had shot the image I would probably have moved the falls off center just a little. I think your right though that moving it very much would take away from the over all look of the total scene.

An interest falls, Gary.  Quite a drop.  I like the centered comp and the 70-200 is my favorite. I think compressing scenes gives a different perspective that I like. Nice image.

I'm going to be a bit more critical than the others on this one Gary. I feel this records a subject but it doesn't emote any feeling. I don't feel you're showing how you feel about it or show it's essence. Perhaps it's just me but little seems to come across about this waterfall.

Wow, that's an impressive sight (as are many or your local scenes), and the detail is exquisite.  Interesting telephoto view -- hard to believe that you shot it from a boat instead of a mountainside.  I was wondering if zooming in closer might concentrate more on the waterfall, but after trying to block out the sides, I think I like the way this horizontal composition puts the viewer in the boat with you.

Lovely soft tonal range. My only comment is that I wonder whether a 4x5 format, cropping from the left, might work better?
